Default Daw sum cd by Lynn Fuston very helpful !!

After 25 recording colleagues listened and wrote down there views, the results were a real eye opener.

Not one of the listeners new the answers to the results. Some spent hours, some spent a short time listening but the outcome was the same in one area, the out of the box mix's.WOW!!

All listeners gave a THUMBS DOWN to the analog summed mixs with the exception of the SSL 9000J.

Once again this was not subjective because we did not know the answers.

It is good to know that a PT summed mix can and does stand up to a very, very expensive SSL board if you don't believe it get the cd.

How did PT HD stack up against PT Mix.? (ie the 48 dB headroom mixer versus the 30 dB)

I will say that most of the daw platforms tested sounded very good and most of them would be keepers. We were shocked at how well the PT, both Mix+HD held together. There were a great assortment of converters used also.

You have to take into account that this was just a summing test, it does not answer what plug-ins of different sorts do to your audio. Some of the small frame digital mixers sounded very good also.

Here's another tidbit/discovery.

The same mix at unity gain, done with the DAW-SUM 24/48 soundfiles, done in

A) PT LE
B) PT Mix+ 5.1.1 (OS9)
C) PT-HD (OS9)

have all three produced bit-identical results.

Yes...it was PT5.1 Mix Plus thru Pultecs. Adds a nice depth, dimension and sparkle to the mix. One of my favorites on the CD.

Contrasted by some of the analog mixes that sounded quite bad. The majority least favorite on the CD so far is an analog mix.
