If you go on the position and click and then right-click, it should work.
If you go on the position and click , but move the cursor away from the vicinity of the position and then right-click, it cannot work.

The blinking cursor is at the position I want to cut in grid-slip-shuffle any mode doesnt matter

I put the cursor is the middle of a clip
its blinking nicely where I want to cut
as soon as I right click it selects the whole clip what is this? something with 12.8?

ALL I WANT TO DO IS RIGHT CLICK WITHOUT IT SELECTING THE WHOLE CLIP

I have to go to edit pull down select cut clip at selection (or control e)

I deleted prefs
fixed other issue I have on this board but this is an f'n nightmare

I asked this question before and you didn't answer it - do you have the track name highlighted? Are you using the smart tool? If so, don't. Just use the I-beam tool.

track is highlighted
smart tool on or off doesn't matter

blinky line on clip (middle, 3/4, 1/8) any where in the clip
I right click
the whole clip gets selected

What did AVID change this?

(I've been using protools since ver 6)
so this is driving me crazy.

looking under preference edit I cant find it any where
WHY WHY WHY!!!!!!!!!1

Dear Moderator,
Please move this into Protools software(win)as this seem to be a defect in this version of protools for win10

this is not a tip or a trick but a possible issue

Hi Will, Thanks for making contact with Avid Customer Care. We are sorry for inconvenience. Our development team is aware of the issue: PT-233024 Right-click > Separate option does not work (new to PT 12.6) It is planned to be fixed in the next update of Pro Tools. Please use " Command + E " short cut as a workaround till the issue is fixed. Thanks, Osamu AVID

problem is that this protools 12.8 and still not fixed
when is the next update?

You don't use an edit pencil - no such thing. Got to your user CP (control panel)and select the 'edit signature' tab on the left side of the page. In the right side which is about 80% of the page is a section titled 'edit signature'. Just click your mouse in there to place the cursor where you want to add/delete/change things and type away. You can preview your signature before saving it. It's that simple.
