Pro Tools session duration limit?
hi,
is there something like a session length limit in pro tools m-powered 7.4.2pr? a friend of mine wants to record a 4-day conference (8 hours a day with breaks every 2 hours) on 5 tracks (44 kHz, 16bit, wav). my recommendation woulde be that he creates a new session from a template in every 2 hour break, just to be safe. (he is a complete recording/pt noob, so the easiest way is the best way ;-) tia, fizzler

Re: Pro Tools session duration limit?
Hi!
There´s a limit of time because of the .wav file itself. It can´t handle more than 2GB (I think - don´t shoot me please, maybe it´s more or less... ). I think it´s always a good idea to interrupt recording at a reasonable time and start over again. Cheers!

Re: Pro Tools session duration limit?
there is also a 12 hour limit to the time line
so a new session every 2 hours will be good now what is the backup/redundancy recording method going to be?

Re: Pro Tools session duration limit?
you could when you have time to stop, seperate the wave file at like the last 2 seconds or so and then resume recording
but in a break just create a new session if you want. |

Re: Pro Tools session duration limit?
thanks, starting a session in every 2 hour break will be the best method for my friend. he is on pro tools for just a few weeks, so it has to be fool-proov.
backup: he will record 5-tracks to the INTERNAL drive and copies the sessions to an EXTERNAL USB2 drive every break. (besides whats recommended, i found this to be the easiest method and never had any problems tracking to the internal drive. my own experience on my macbook is that i had many issues (bad performance) when recording to an external fw-drive when it doesn't have its own controller and swaps the same controller as the fw-audio-interface.)
