Brand new... while playing back I tried wiggling it around and it did not cause any error :/ I can't figure out if it is hardware or software related

your going to have to start at the top and work down the list. Slowly.

Update your computer os, GPU and all other associated hardware.
Matched Ramm and all that.

Perform the OS optimizations listed for windows.

Make sure you are running the latest version of PT available to you.

Trash prefs.....

It sounds like you are not using plugins in the session yet, so that shouldn't be causing issues. What are you using as your clocking source? Should be the 96 but did you check it? internally clocked?

Is your main playback device the 96?

Can you check it with another interface? I honestly will look into the HD TDM build myself (depending on other issues) and you should really be running a 192 i/o at least. The converters are supposedly of a better quality.

Hey there, Yeah the 96i is my main playback device. I am wanting to move onto the 192 but for now I wanted an entry level set. The clock source is internal. There is something very strange going on here and I cant figure it out... If i were to just arm a track and record with no input it would record 3 minutes worth of the timeline in 5 seconds... there would be white noise in majority but sometimes random drum parts of previous sessions I recorded on my 8 le would be in there...followed by more white noise (note that those individual files arent even on this pc ) The most common factor is that it keeps losing connection with the 96i somehow. Cable seems to be 100%. I am running 8.0.5, I tried 8.1.1 but the drivers were not installing properly (turns out a lot of people had that problem). No plug ins at all in the session. I am absolutely stumped, Digitest says everything passes. Also if I just import a song into Pro Tools and listen to it i can hear some crackles and artifacts now and then.

Default Pro Tools 8 HD Clock source interrupted

What about hard drives? Are they Sata drives?

Cracking can be caused by slow under performing drives,

Also clocking issue, ie read bad interface or problem.

Tried recording to my system drive (7200rpm) as well as my main Session drive (7200rpm). I can't figure out if it is a bad interface or core card...

I have a feeling it is clocking issues due to the fact that I get lots of errors saying that the digital clock sync is interrupted etc.
