Default REGARDING THE ASUS K8V SE DELUXE AND RAM

Can I install a single 1GB module of ram to start out with, or will I need pairs, and how does this affect performance?

A single stick should be fine. I don't know how a single 1 gig vs a pair of 512's would differ in performance as long as the 512's match......

Hey glu!

I had similar questions when getting my K8V-SE Deluxe set-up. Check it the Owners manual from the Asus website here.

It will tell you all the different configurations of memory you can use. It's on Page 33.
I'm using 2x512 sticks of Micron which work great.

cheers
blizzard

thanks blizzard, so if I go 400mhz for the RAM, I can have a max of 2 Gig, eh? This 250 MB Lan Party board sounds good as well, AND OF COURSE coming from Allen's recommendations, sounds trustworthy. My only concern is that I am a neophyte at tweaking computer's for performance. Performing changes in Bios is completely new to me, never have done it! I am sure a few adjustments are needed with both of these MOBOs in the Bios. How do I get one of those mobile 3400s with one of the suggested motherboards? I want the top notch performance with room to expand once dual processors are fully supported and go down in price. Ah, gotta love technology!

You can find both at www.newegg.com but this will not support dual processors. By the way dual processor support is here already, but because PTLE does not utilize both processors simultaneously it has very little benefit if any on the Windows platform. Single AMD 64 processors are the best performers and I suspect that will be the case in two years as well.
