Default PC laptops for PT 2020

Hi folks
Does anyone have any good recommendations for off the shelf laptops to run PT 2020? I’ve been searching a while but my nervousness is that none of the ones I’m looking at (dell precision, XP’s, hp omen) are on the avid tested list despite fitting all the requirements. In fact there only seems to be one pc laptop model that is approved, which seems daft. I just don’t want to make a expensive mistake as know PT can be a bit temperamental on some systems.
Would welcome some words of wisdom! Thank you.

Avid tested hardware list is here. The only PC laptop is HP ZBook G2

With that said, they update this list infrequently. The same guidelines hold true on PC side as on Macs... you want to have i7 or better CPU, at the very least 16GB memory (today you would kick yourself in the foot if you buy anything less than 32GB and should really try to buy 64GB) and take a careful look at the storage system: you want to have NVMe SSD as system drive and preferably use ThunderBolt for any external connections. Especially if your interface eats all USB3 bandwidth.

Thank you - that’s very helpful. Yes, it’s strange they don’t have a more up to date list as I don’t think the ZBook even meets the minimum requirements. I was looking at this one but just slightly nervous as it hasn’t been approved even though the specs looks good

No problem.

Just double-check that SSD spec, if it doesn't say NVMe or PCI-express it is likely older slower SATA type which you don't want to buy today. And once you have verified it is the modern type, you want to buy as large capacity as your budget permits.

Thanks again for your advice. I ended up going for a custom option which cheaper than the off the shelf equivalent.

No problem.

I only get 1200MBps out of 660p but that is likely because my Mac Pro only has PCI-express 2.0

Nah, only pay extra money for extra capacity. And without checking specs, whether the laptop has 3.0 (assuming it has) or not, switching brands is like rolling dice.
