Default Best Solution for D/A in LE?

hi, i have a mix session coming up, using a digi001 system. the clients have asked about maximizing the number of channels out through a yet-to-be determined D/A converter such as an Apogee. we have a 2 channel Apogee. my studio partner is considerign buying a multichannel one...
so.. should we get the Apogee DA-16x, for example and then use it lightpiped out for 8 channels, use the s/pdif for another two through the older apogee and have the remaining 8 outs analog from the digi001? is there a better solution possible for th eLE systems?

The Apogee D/A 16 X Series is a most awesome converter. Sure there are better, but VERY few, and NONE for the same price range ,, period.......

That is the way I'd go -- (should I say DID go) - I have a Apogge A/D 16 X and a D/A 16 X -- "Awesome" --

I don't have a recommendation, but what will you be running all these analog channels into?

(LOL) ha ha
That is a good point Tele -- actually a real good point... (man I still am LOL)

anyway, I'm sure (at least hope) dude knows....

Now he'll have 16 analog outs , and 16 digital AES,ADAT/SMUX outputs... that's alot of plugs !!

right... i should have said. this studio runs a soundcraft board, usually for the outputs of a 16track 1" deck. plenty of outboard gear- many preamps and compressors, so the 18 analog channels that will eventually come out won't be a problem, provided they sound good to begin with...

so i'm guessing that i was right that there's not a better way to get better D/A conversion, or more of it from an LE system? none of those cards that apogess makes work with lower than HD systems... and the firewire one...? can't interface with LE..?

Well, that soundcraft is cool then... Sounds like a great set up jes !! I think you would be happy with anything that did a good job, gave you the amount of outs you want, and worked correctly with your system..

Hey just a thought.. That 16 X has a firewire card expansion to connect to (it says) "any firewire enabled computer",, so I don't know if that means it will work seemlessly with your set up or not,,,, but it's worth a call to Apogee tomorrow to ask..

Here's their # (310)915-1000 ask for a "Product Specialist"

Good Luck--

that's what i was wondering too, if the 16x's firewire card could somehow work with a PTLE system. that would be cool, but somehow i think that it only works where you don't have digi hardware...
