There's no one answer to that. Let your ears be your guide. Experiment with other settings too...you may hit on something cool (ie, a 3/8 inverted, etc). Never hurts to experiment...that's how you get happy accidents!

Nah - that's how you get jazz. Remember that a mistake made once is a mistake; make it more than once and it's called jazz

The amount on the main dial is how deep the pump effect cuts.

What you want for a 4 on the floor beat is more to do with the Rate selection. Namely you will be looking for a 1/4 setting and playing with the Offset so the effect is hitting at the right time.

This same company also does Metafilter which gives you a whole host of more options, but is more complex to get your head around and more expensive. Its great tool however.

Generally you turn up the big dial until Pumper sounds obvious, then you just change the Offset until it sounds like it's pumping in the right place.

Give it a try, it's pretty easy to tell.

If you want something with more control there are plugins like MetaFilter and others around.

http://www.waves.com/plugins/metafilter#

They offer a lot more flexibility, however the trade off is they can be harder to use and are generally more expensive... but thats what sales are for!!

There's probably a good chance you can find a preset close to what you want, then you can tweak it from there.
