Smile New Mac ...it f....ing flyes

Hello guys

I wanted to report my expirience with my Protools set up

I installed protools on a ne Nehalem octo 2.93 ghz with 16 gigs of ram memory

I have the new magma chasis with 6 accell cards ( pci , no pci e )

I didnt use a clean install, i used the migration asistant, since my venerable
g5 was asking to cash its 401k already :)

Its an unbeliavable machine and of course one of the fastest times in my life Ive seen protools opening

Its fairly stable, although to be honest, I havent pushed to the limits yet

another thing that might be colaborating to the stability , is the fact that im runing a separate computer (macpro hapertown 8 core 3.2 with 16 gigs of ram ) so y can host all of my software instrument ( I know I know, am beeing unfaithful to rtas, but I was tired of beeing spitted on the face and called a bit......h)

summarizing, it had no problem at all, recognizing the chasis, the cards, the plugins, the icon, the preferences, etc

Good luck

You did this with firewire to your G5?

This could be a problem, was the G5 a PPC or Intel? Intel you might be alright.

G5's were only ever PPC by the nature of the G5 chip being a PPC chip.

The poster also doesn't seem to be reporting a problem here. I know that's odd for a forum of this kind, but this seems to be one of those all too rare posts reporting a successful upgrade!

Chris
Migration assistant doesn't move system files, just User related bits.

I have moved from PPC to Intel on several systems and all apps stay installed. It works real well. Though I have not moved Pro Tools, I have moved Final Cut Pro and all Adobe apps.

I used firewire 800

it didnt present any problems whatsoever ( i guess I was lucky)

is just that i had so many plugins that I didnt wanted to spend 2 days just installing things

all authorizations worked ( ilok and not ilok related) except of course
channel strip ( is kind of temperamental )

take care
