Re: UAD 2 Quad and GA-EX58-EXTREME
The first thing you need to do akha is get a stable system running without the UAD stuff installed, then go from there. I'd suggest Pro Tools 9.0.3 instead of 9.0.5 (but I admit I'm on mac, and it may not be the same story for PC)
I'd leave the radiators on if you use the original M/B, as overheating can cause wierd errors that may lead you to more troubleshooting problems (Been there). It would be nice to be able to throw all the parts and software together and start mixing straight away, but this is rarely the case with a bleeding edge Tools rig.

Re: UAD 2 Quad and GA-EX58-EXTREME
FYI
Here a details about my Ticket with UAD: UAD feedback was the following Sorry to hear about any troubles. We should look at the setting you have in Pro Tools. Perhaps optimizing the settings will improve performance... Pro Tools settings ( maximize performance with UAD plugins ): Set the Pro Tools hardware buffer size to the proper value to maximize performance - Open the Setup/Playback Engine settings window in Pro Tools. For Pro Tools 8.* and below set the Hardware Buffer Size ( H/W Buffer Size ) to 512 for Pro Tools HD and 1024 for Pro Tools LE. For Pro Tools 9.* and above you can experiment by setting the Hardware Buffer Size first to 512 and then increase the value if needed. You can also adjust the number of 'RTAS Processors' you have running ( reduce the number of processors ). This can often improve performance. - Open the Setup/Playback Engine settings window in Pro Tools. Change/reduce the RTAS Processors value. Experiment with this value... Try setting the value to '1 Processor' and then press PLAY. You can then experiment by increasing this number up until problems occur. Let me know if this helps the situation. If you are still having the issues or if you have any other questions you can reply to this email. My answer I have changed the buffer size to 512 and reduced the number of processors to 2 in the Playback Engine settings window in Pro Tools and this improves the things pretty much. But I can’t consider this as a full solution since using 512 buffer size mean that I will be only able to use UAD plug-ins during the mix/playback not during the recording. Not using the plug-ins during recording is significant drawback to me. Is this known issue currently and UA/AVID working to fix it or? UAD Last feedback: The UAD plugins ARE only meant to be used in the mixing and mastering phase of production. This is due to the fact that you need to have the buffer sizes up at a min of 512. This has been the case since the beginning of the product's release. Let me know if you have any other questions. If you do you can simply reply to this email or submit a new support request. Good luck with all your projects. =================================== |

Re: UAD 2 Quad and GA-EX58-EXTREME
I had a problem getting my UAD card to play with my HD2 Accel system running in a new PC (i7 2600k), lots of -9128 errors and CPU spikes all the time.
I fixed it by turning off the Enhance CPU Performance flag in the UAD config. Give it a try |

I ran a free program called DriverView to get a list of the drivers currently installed on my computer but the list was massive and most of the data was irrelevent to what I was trying to do.. so I get lost in all of the excess information. I don't want to blindly uninstall drivers, and I don't even know how to locate utilities (let alone diagnose whether those utilities are vital to my computer's stability), so any advice would be appreciated.
