External Lacie drive

We are using a Lacie external hard drive with an I-book G4. The problem is that sometimes PT 6.4 will not let us run a session from this drive. Then when we re-install PT it works fine. It also seems that when using this drive we have problems bouncing down to Quicktime format. It begins to bounce and then it just stops and creates nothing. This is sometimes also when bouncing to the primary hard drive. Can anyone please tell me why?
