Default Wave size??

For a long while now I’ve always doubted the signal I’m recording and the size of the wave in the edit window in PT. Tonight I used my new Sansamp Rack unit to record some bass. It was an active Ibanez bass and I recorded both the DI fro. The sansamp and the processed signal from the sansamp. The straight DI signal was hitting -22 ish on the pro tools meters but the actual wave for was so low in the edit window. I know you can increase/decrease this. If I press Alt + A which I assume resizes the waves to standard view. The bass wave for went back to being very small. There was no way on the sansamp to increase the natural DI level. Is this normal for a DI level to be so low. Hope I’ve made sense

Low DI level sure is normal. What problem are you trying to solve? You are going to run it though many tens of dB gain to get a normal signal level in your mix.

And if you need more help what is the full signal chain here? What pickups, what pedals if any, what preamp/DI, etc what are all the relevant gains set to.

You normally increase the DI level by turning up the output level/volume knob on the bass or the gain on the DI/Preamp.

I’m using the sansamp RBI with an Ibanez bass. Recording both the dry signal which is very low and the processed signal which I can change the volume of via the sansamp

Default Wave size??

The output of a DI box is mic level, and still needs a preamp. Feel free to adjust the gain on the preamp as needed
