Default Sierra/PT9

Hi All,

I updated my MacBook Pro to Sierra. I've had PT9 on it since it came out and now, when opening a session, I get the message: "Pro Tools cannot be opened because of a problem. Check with the developer to make sure Pro Tools works with this version of MacOS..."

Any steps, basic or otherwise, to get it going again?

As always, any advice/answers are really appreciated.

Best,
Adam

You should have really paid attention to the compatibility issues. They are well known here on the DUC as well as on this page from Avid: http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/e...tibility-Chart

Steps to get going again range from:
Back dating to whatever OSX version you had before. You did make a backup BEFORE you made this mistake right? Hard drives are cheap and there's no excuse for NOT having a backup. Next to iLok's ZDT coverage hard drives and clones are as inexpensive insurance you will ever buy. Clones: don't make operating system changes without having one. They've saved butts for more than a few people (me included).

To:
You could also update to PT12. But then you have to get all new versions of your plugins as RTAS went the way of the dodo bird with PT10. It's all aax64 format from now on and luckily a lot of developers have aax64 now.

The operative question in all this is why in the world did you 'upgrade' to Sierra? If you really needed to do that for some s/w you need to run you could do like I do and have multiple boot partitions if you have the hard drive space.

Sorry but you're not going to get any sympathy here.

musicman...,

It's curious you would offer such a thoughtful reply only to to be laden with snarky bs. You ought not have bothered.

For the years I've been reading and utilizing this valuable forum, yours is the first post or reply that is wholly disappointing.

This will be the only reply to you.

Default Sierra/PT9

Well like it or not he is right.

Best thing to do without investing any money into a new pro tools version is to roll back or reinstall again

But then again You could update, there have been lots of updates to the software since PT9

No snark but the unvarnished truth and sometimes that hurts. You really should have looked before you leapt into this OSX change. I don't sugarcoat anything.
