Default Piece of Advice for Mac Users... download new macOS

I highly recommend that all Mac-based Pro Tools users download, save, and archive the golden master version (aka the .0 version) of Apple's new OS (10.13.0: High Sierra) installer. Once Apple moves past 10.13.0, you will never be able to get the .0 version from Apple again, and we all know how Avid is with approving various iterations of Mac's OSs.

You'll always be able to find a combo updater which will bring you up to the version you need, but I can't stress enough how difficult it can be to find the elusive .0 version once Apple starts releasing updates.

Thanks for this info. Sneaky. I have to wonder does this also mean the end of combo updaters for HS and beyond?

Doubt it. Mine downloaded as the complete 5.18 GB file without doing anything special in order to prompt it.

From the link:

Incomplete macOS High Sierra installer

Why do some users get a small incomplete version of macOS High Sierra installer from the App Store?

This is not yet known, but it happens with the final version of macOS High Sierra installer as well as with some of the beta versions.

It is unclear why some users will get a 19MB version of “Install macOS High Sierra.app” when downloaded from the App Store, while others users will get the complete 5.2GB version of “Install macOS High Sierra.app” when downloading from the App Store. Interestingly, once a user ends up with the 19 MB version of the incomplete installer, that seems to be the only thing that will download for that user regardless of how many times the incomplete installer app is deleted and re downloaded.

The installer size and completeness inconsistency appears random, and has no relation to disk space, beta enrollment, software catalog, and other theories seem to be incorrect as well.

Good advice. Of course, I always download and keep these, as many other iterations of installers from Avid among others. Not that I need to rollback that often but I've already made this into a quick and simple routine. My installer library costs about a few hundred GB.

As much as I love many things about Apple, "their way or the highway" is a really bad way of supporting and inviting mission critical businesses. Fortunately my own business is small enough that I'm able to choose to use Macs to work with (reason being I really like macOS).

Apple ...
