[VIDEO] Eucon vs Command8 fader stability test

Could someone please test this on S3 and S6 and could you post a screenshot of volume automation line?

I made a similar screenshot. Top is Artist Mix, bottom is Command8.

It looks a bit better with your example than Artist Mix, but still not as smooth as Command8. It confirms my suspicion that there is something with Eucon protocol that makes the connection not as stable as Digidesign controllers. I can see that on all S6 demo videos. The reaction time of Eucon controllers is not immediate.

Damn, I knew I shouldn't have sold my ProControl! Is there an audible difference? Does Pro Tools do any interpolation/smoothing on playback?

I will check that later but it was the same for both Command8 and Artist Mix. Actually I made this test after I noticed just from looking at Pro Tools faders that moving them on Command8 is smoother than on Artist Mix. I was pushing them up and down with transport stopped. Artist Mix made faders shaking a bit while Command8 represented smooth moves. Only after that I wrote those automation lines.

Unfortunately I had to return Command8, but I made another pass with thinning disabled on Artist Mix.

Well, if you look for precision when doing some word by word manual real time levelling, Artist can be frustrating at times. For fader riding non Eucon controllers will be much better. Perhaps it is slightly better with an S6 than with an Artist Mix, but why cheap legacy Command8, which you can get for $300, is better than $20k or $100k console for fader riding is beyond my understanding.

I am actually getting Pro Control while I wait for a good offer for D-Command. I've had it with Artist Series. Only Artist Control with its soft keys has some functional value to me, but well serviced Pro Control for $500 will eat it. And D-Command can be grabbed for $3500 these days.

Perhaps Eucon will catch up in 5 or 10 years time in stability to Digidesign consoles. I'll wait and see.
