Crashes at startup HELP PLEASE! I am sad.
Been a long time PT user. Just updated hardware from Digi 001 to Lightbridge and 7.3. Was very excited to get all the new 7.3 stuff and had already planned to get 7.4. Was even ready to pay to update my plugs, which I was NOT looking forward too.
No love, PT crashed to desktop while starting up every time. It looks like it makes it past loading the plugins to the DAE stuff and flashes up a error box really quickly and crashes to desktop. I'm pretty sure it says "access violation occurred" but I can't make out the second line. I've tried using the Lighebridge on two other computers and it fires right up and runs like a champ. I read a bit before I built this machine cause I wanted to be as compatible as I could and I was sure It was all good (TI firewire chipset, N-force chipset). It's been running 6.4 and briefly 6.9 for a while with no troubles except for the multi-core scheduling problem that I took care of. I've tried re-installing (everything, a lot) Removing all plugins The two important windows hot-fixes Updating Pace drivers Turning off indexing Trashing prefs and such Disabling everything other stuff I'm to frustrated to remember at this late hour. This is yes another time that PT has totally SNAFU'ed my schedule due to some really frustrating problem that none of my other software has. Cubase never lets me down like this. I've never had problems with Cubase, why do I continue to torture myself with PT year after year? Pro Tool is like a bad girlfriend. sigh.... I CAN HAS HELP PLEASE? Re: Crashes at startup HELP PLEASE! I am sad.
We fought, we struggled, I shouted like a crazy man,I tried everything I could to settle the matter and sometime in the early morning after hours of strife, we came to terms with each other and made up like a feuding young couple. I got it working. I can't be quite sure what the exact fix was because I was trying several things at once in my frustration but it's all working fine now. It's like I said, my relationship with Pro Tools is like a high maintenance romance.
I think it was a Windows Hotfix for dual core CPU's or AMD's dual core optimizer. I got it to boot after creating a new user account and installing one of the windows hotfixes. It ran but it exhibited strange midi click behavior. The click track was erratic and didn't keep time at all! It was all over the place! Very strange. I then installed the AMD optimizer and rebooted and the combination of these fixes and rebooting has fixed all my problems for now. Lets hope it stays that way. We're getting along famously at the moment. For now, there is peace.
