Default Really annoying things with the new "Relative Grid Editing"

(the title should read "annoying")

With PT 2018.7 comes the new cut, copy, paste, and merge “Relative Grid” edit mode.

So far so good, BUT

What the hell is going on when I am copying (key command) a Clip and toggle to another playlist or another track (without changing the song position)
and paste that clip, the pasted clips is complete out of time, because this "wonderfull" feature paste the clips "relative" to the "relative" position.

People that makes absolut no sense. I often copy clips from one track to another Track or to another playlist without changing the Songposition. In this situation IMO PT has to copy at the same point and not "relative" (also when relative grid is on) ?!?

With 2018.7 every time I paste at the same position to another track I have to deactivate the "relative grid mode" and change to "slip" mode or to "(fix) Grid mode", before I paste a Clip on the same position to another track.

This behavior is absolut strange. And a workflow killer for people who worked with PT before 2018.7 (like me :)

In other words a "relative paste" makes only sense when you paste on a full grid position.

Please give as a preference check box to get the old behavior or better do not allow to paste relative when the playhead is not on a bar or beat.

I hope this is a bug and not an Idea of Avid Programmer :)

Yes, I noticed that. Seems totally crazy to me.

To move a clip to another track, I use the ol' Ctrl+click'n'drag up/down or Opt+Cmd+V (paste special when in relative grid mode).

To move to a new playlist, you can use Shift+Opt+N.

But yeah - seems weird to me.

Yeah, you have to press f4, paste and press f4 again. Could be improved in this case.... And CTRL doesn't bypass GRID on the midi editor anymore

sheesh. anything that doesn't get in the way of basic editing flow would be amazing... thank you for posting this though. the "temporary grid" feature they implemented while in Slip has always been driving me nuts and this would've done the same. it should not require any thought or looking whatsoever while editing.

Regardless of your work flow- AVID really needs to make all these new things an OPTION. Not everyone wants to re-learn how to edit and IMO no one asked for these tweaks.

might as well put on idea scale too.

I've not downloaded the new version yet, and I don't actually use Relative Grid very much (coming from the days when it never even existed), but when I saw the video demonstration of this questionable "feature" I immediately got alarm bells ringing. As soon as you've got a program that pastes something where it thinks you want it, rather than where you actually want it, that can surely only start leading to user headaches.....?

I use relative grid a lot. Great feature. But, PT should automatically suspend RG when you move/copy clips to other tracks or playlists.

I like relative grid a lot--but this HAS to be a bug. Just discovering this thread after having this issue in both 2019.12 and 2020.03.

Of what possible use is this?
