Default Perpetual licenses are back

Well there you go. Via Production Expert:

New Pro Tools Pricing
Starting today (September 21st 2023), new Pro Tools Perpetual Licences will again be available for sale exclusively through authorised Avid resellers, they will not be sold via the Avid Web Store. Pricing is as follows:

Pro Tools Artist Perpetual Licence - $199

Pro Tools Artist Perpetual Upgrade - $69

Pro Tools Studio Perpetual Licence - $599

Pro Tools Studio Perpetual Upgrade - $199

Pro Tools Ultimate Perpetual Licence - $1,499

Pro Tools Ultimate Perpetual Upgrade - $399

Pro Tools Studio Perpetual Upgrade EDU for Students & Teachers - $99

Pro Tools Studio Perpetual Upgrade EDU for Institutions - $99

It’s worth pointing out that the price of an Ultimate perpetual licence has been significantly reduced, when it was last available it was $2,599, a drop of over 40%. EDU Perpetual Licences are not being reintroduced.

Simplified Plans
To simplify keeping perpetual licence customers current, Avid will also consolidate the existing Pro Tools Perpetual Updates + Support Plan Renewals and Pro Tools Perpetual Updates + Support Plan Upgrade (Get Current) into one.

Starting September 21, Pro Tools Perpetual customers will use a Pro Tools Perpetual Upgrade to renew their perpetual licence or get current, there will no longer be a separate, higher priced upgrade for customers who have dropped off their Updates + Support plans.

We just passed (as in a week ago) on migrating other platforms to Ultimate due to subscription and the $2600 perpetual price not knowing the future of perpetual. For corporate structures recurring subscription are a pain to bill and manage.

Overdue but kudos to those involved in changing course.

Strange Sweetwater is showing the new graphics/boxes but Pro Tools Ultimate Perpetual Upgrade is $599 and Pro Tools Ultimate Perpetual Renewal is $399.
Upgrade being the old reinstatement.

Likely just a bump in the transition from old to new.

Marainna, for some reason everything seems to have got better for Avid customers since you arrived at the DUC :)

I can't applaud this move loud enough!

THIS IS HUGE!!!

Finally, you have transitioned to licensing that treats us with respect and like adults. I hope this continues to be the way forward.

Thank you Thank you Thank you! Hopefully over time, this will win some of your old users back.

Avid has lost soo many young engineers from the old model. Over and over again I would see a student purchase Pro Tools for school. They were too broke to renew their upgrade plan (or just didn't realize the consequences). Upgraded their Mac OS and then Pro Tools no longer worked. Then they went to upgrade Pro Tools and saw that they either needed to pay the ridiculous reinstatement plan cost, or in recent cases, repurchase Pro Tools all together. They see those prices in comparison to the prices of Logic which has no subscription requirements and they would jump ship. I couldn't blame them.

I love Pro Tools, but it has been hard to recommend it to new users with the previous pricing. This will finally make sense again for young engineers, hobbiests, etc to stay on board with Pro Tools.

I hope Avid sees a boost in revenue over the next few years over this smart decision.

One other thought...question I have.

Where are we at regarding plugins and instruments that only work while your subscription/upgrade plan is current? Will that continue to do the same thing?

I have tons of plugins (complete plugin bundle) that I avoid using because my understanding is that if my upgrade plan ever lapses, I will no longer have access to them. I would LOVE to see this no longer the case for perpetual users.

For example, I believe Synth Cell and Sample Cell were put under that same agreement, that they only work as long as we have a "subscription" whether it is a traditional subscription or a current Upgrade plan.

Is this correct?
