Default Uninstalling PT

I'm having issues with the video engine, and I saw a thread about uninstalling 2022.9 and then reinstalling 2022.9. To uninstall ProTools I read you just trash the PT program? Is this okay and will I lose any plug ins etc. Also can I just reinstall 2022.9 back on the computer (without deleting the other associated PT files/preferences) and not cause more issues?

Thanks.

Default Re: Uninstalling PT

Just trashing the .app will not remove plugins .. no way it can, they live elsewhere in the file system. Even running Pro Tools uninstallers where they exist on Windows will not uninstall plugins, never has for obvious reasons of what a PITA this would be.

Trashing the .app does *not* do a full uninstall of all of Pro Tools there some minor parts left behind outside in addition to the audio plugins. And at least on Macs if you do need to install a new version of Pro Tools you can typically just do that without needing to "uninstall" anything, the Pro Tools installer handles everything correctly.

Many ideas that uninstalling and reinstalling Pro Tools solves problems are wastes of time. But maybe Guy was onto something here: http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?p=2649042 with the reboot between installs, I have no idea but I would also try it with a full reboot but not spend a lot of time on this.

Still stuck, posts info about the exact problems you are having, your setup etc. and ask for help or contact Avid support.

Default Re: Uninstalling PT

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, having LOTS of small issues that are messed up in PT 2022.9 for me. I'm on Mojave still so I know they didn't test it. Midi weirdness, AudioSuite doesn't load randomly, can't import files and copy them, I can only Add them. I never do Add because sometimes I erase files in the session I know I'm not using.

I updated a week or so ago and had no problems with a few small gigs, but now I'm on a TV gig and there are lots of issues with a 'deeper' session. Not sure if I should roll back or not while I'm in this job.
