Default How to STOP fan noise?

HI all,

My Macbook is constantly whirring with fan noise and it's not hot.

I've tried all the usual software (smc Fan control & Fan Control 1.2) and neither of them do anything whatsoever - I think that they're just gimmicks.

I've disabled Spotlight and stopped MD in activity monitor - what else can I do?

After about 5-10mins of use in Pro tools the fans start. I've got the Macbook raised on books and it's not hot underneath.

There seems to be thousands of posts online about this and not a single solution that works.

Bar cutting a cable is there any way to TURN OFF, totally and utterly turn off the fan?

Help please......
