Default Using 003 and 11R inputs simultaneously?

Is it possible to use the 003 and 11R inputs simultaneously?

Because whenever I change playback engine to 11R so I can record guitar dry & wet simultaneously, the 003 inputs become nonassignable. My 003 main outs to my monitors are also unusable.

Is there a more optimal method of cabling all this together? Currently I have them like this:

11R USB to PC
003 Firewire to PC
11R S/PDIF (both ways) to 003

003 (master clock), 11R (external S/PDIF)

I'm not using the MIDI ports on either unit; I uses a MOTU MIDI Express 128 for that, which also connects directly to the PC via USB.

You can't use the inputs of both interfaces at the same time unfortunately by just hooking them up to the computer.
Avid doesn't allow it. Who knows maybe pro tools 9 will allow you to do so.

One of the best ways though to use the 11R with the 003(R) is as follows:

- 003 Firewire to computer
- Eleven Rack SPDIF cinch in and out connected to 003 SPDIF in and out
- Output Amp 2 (on back of 11R) to a free input on the 003. Use this to
record the dry guitar source for reamping purposes.
- best to label the inputs and outputs accordingly in IO setup
- set the main hardware to 003 in hardware setup
- set the clock source to internal in hardware setup
- set the clock source of the 11R to SPDIF (external)
- connect the 11R with USB to the computer
- set the "embed settings from" to spdif input in the user options of the 11R
window in Pro Tools

When you turn on your setup always turn on the 003 first (wait a few seconds) and then turn on the 11R so it can detect the external clock on its spdif input.

You can now record the 11R into Pro Tools. Rig output via spdif and dry signal (onto a seperate track) via the analog input that you connected to the Amp output 2 of the 11R.

As extra info. It is even possible in this setup to hookup a high quality external preamp to your 003 via the Adat input (as i have). If you use an external preamp with a very good clock, all devices benefit from it. Set the clock source in hardware setup to the adat input and all devices will clock to your external preamp. Make sure you turn everything on in the right order. First your external preamp (as master clock) then your 003(R) and then your 11R wait a few seconds between each device. All devices should now have the right clock source and work without a problem.

Hope this helps.

Default Re: Using 003 and 11R inputs simultaneously?

Thanks you! That's nearly identical how I had it set up, but I hadn't tried getting the dry audio from the amp out on the back yet... o.O

Can you tell me the best way to playback the dry audio, so you can audition new rigs, and finally re-rerecord the new wet audio?
