XFX was the only Radeon/ATI card builder I could find with 2 DVIs AND a narrow profile.
How can you do an HD4 when there's only 3 PCI slots on the board? Are you combining PCI and PCIe?

Hey sonorelli !

Naw... that post was made when I had a different mobo... which had 4 pci slots.... I blew that one up , which forced me to find my current one (see sig), which, as you correctly point out, only has 3 slots...

Have a good one!

Sorry dude, I don't know anyone using this..it was just a suggestion based on extensive research on chipsets and PT incompatablities etc I have been doing for myself!
I also just found this one which has 4 PCI slots.. promising!

Hi Rick,

Did you have any issues getting your PCI-X cards to fit/work with the PCI slots on the Gigabyte motherboard?

Thanks in advance.

Kevin

Tried a Gigabyte X58A-UD3R with a PCI and again with a PCIe HD core card, and I found the PCI to be the most stable! With the PCIe I ran into all kinds of problems. The Gigabyte seemed to have problems with the Kingston DDR3 (4gb modules) as well...

In the end I installed my HD2 Accell on an ASUS PT6 deluxe v2.
My new system is just up and running, but so far no problems!

Hi, my name is 'Ray', and I'm a Mac User.

I've been scanning through all the "components" threads, as I'm planning to move my HD "Classic" (PCI) system from my Mac to a PC for the same reason many others have: it's to frickin' expensive to buy a new Mac and then pay for the exchange on the HD cards. Especially since the current cards are most likely nearing EOL.

I'm hoping some of you in the know can comment on what I think I'm reading between the lines in all the discussion:

* Must the PCI slots be immediately adjacent to each other on the mobo?
I've seen lots of boards that have PCI ~ PCI-e ~ PCI ~ PCI-e.

* Is the chipset a particular concern? Are there particular chipsets to go for or to avoid? Most I've seen discussed use either the P55 or H55. Coincidence?

* Would there be significant benefit going with a 3-channel RAM vs. a 2-channel RAM configuration?

Thanks.
Ray

Hi Ray,

indeed you have to watch out for the pci slots!!!
they have to be next to each other if you are planning on using more then 1 protools card! (otherwise the flexcable will be too short)

As stated in my earlier post, I'm running on an x58 (1366) chipset.
The Gigabyte board I tried was not very stable with more then 8 Gigs of ram...
The Asus PT6 Deluxe 2 has no problems!

Another thing to consider is your graphics card!
Mine (ati5850) is 2 slots wide and if inserted in the first pci-e it covers the first pci slot...
BUT lucky for me, it also works in the last two slots

Hope this helps.

PS I originally switched from a MAC G4 (for the same reason as you) to a Supermicro Mobo (server) PC and updated that one this week...
