Default Any difference between 3GB and 4GB of RAM?

Hi!

I'm running PT 8 on a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and currently have 3GB of RAM. I haven¡t really had big problems, just every once in a while some errors about plugins.

How much difference could I expect if I max out the ram to 4GB?

Thanks to all for your opinions!

Adding in that last 1GB is going to net you between .25 and .5 of a GB of usable RAM at best. Most of us running 4GB of RAM are doing so because thats the way our RAM modules shipped and we want the RAM running in dual channel mode. With modern VI's every little bit of RAM can help but unless your constantly getting out of memory errors I wouldn't worry about adding in the last 1GB. Over 3 GB is a land of diminishing returns.

Depending on the mobo architecture, sometimes having RAM in matched pairs (2x1GB, 2x2GB, etc.) allows RAM accesses to be interleaved resulting in a performance boost. This is true of the older Mac Pros, and the newer ones actually favor triplicates i.e. 3x2GB etc.
