Default 002R: underflow and help off interruptions

Hey everyone

I'm about to explode over these "underflow" and "held of interruptions for too long" errors, saying to increase and decrease the Hardware Buffer Size. I'm on a machine with 2 gigabyte ram, 3500+ AMD 64, 2 x 7200 RPM harddrives and a seperate firewire card for the 002Rack.

I'm only running about 4 tracks, and it keeps giving me error messages all the time. IF I decrease, it will give me "The operating system held off interruptions for too long". If I increase I get "Audio device buffer underflowed"..... AHHHH

If you ever ran into these problems, what did you do? I googled it, and the Digidesign answer is to switch firewire port. I tried the 3 firewire ports on my pci-card, but it didn't help.

Could it be my firewire card, or what is the problem?

Thanks from a frustrated guy

Is your firewire card one of the approved ones? If not, that may be the problem. Also, make sure you setup according to the required system tweaks in the Getting Started Guide, especially the part about having your hard drives running in DMA mode and NOT PIO mode. Just in case you did not know, protools should be installed to your system drive (C:) and your sessions should be created/saved to another drive. I saw that you have 2 drives but some make the mistake of installing protools on the audio drive.

Hey, thanks for the answer

Pro Tools is installed on the c: drive, and my sessions is on the other disk, so that's allright.

the harddrives are running DMA mode

My problem is, that I cannot get the suggested firewire cards in denmark. Have tried searching, but nothing came up at the computer-stores :-(

Can anyone look through these cards and see if any of them are okay?

I am on the road for the next 3 weeks but if you strike out on other options, when I get home, I can sell and ship the Adaptec card that I had in my old system. It is the earlier version that works with protools(the later cards changed to a different chipset). I will be home on December 4 if you need to email me then.
