Default Panning options

Hey all,

I'm working with Pro Tools 8, Digi Rack 003, and a MAC OS 10.6
I know Pro tools allows you to pan left and right but is there a way to pan up and down in the sound field? And if so, is it something that comes standard with Pro Tools or is it something like a plug-in?

There is no such thing as up and down. Are you maybe talking about surround mixing?

Oh okay then yes I guess that's what I mean. I've heard songs where sound effects seem to fly up and down so I thought it was as simple as panning left and right.

Ok I did some googling and I found out you can buy panning equipment to use more of the entire "sound field". I don't know much about it otherwise , I just thought there were more options other than simply panning a sound to the left and to the right. I was listening to a band called Angels&Airwaves the other day and I noticed alot of interesting sounds that seemed to move diagonally or all around from earphone to earphone. Does that make sense?

You need Pro Tools HD for surround panning.

I don't think OP is asking surround, I think he is talking about the vintage Roland Space Panner (or some name like that)
