Mbox only recognizes 1gb ram for buffer
i have been searching this forum for a while now trying to find an answer. I just purchased a Mac mini intel D-core 2.66 with 4gb ram with leopard and i have a mbox with pro tools 8. It connects via USB. now with my old PC i had hardware buffer issues all the time and I thought i would get rid of it with a mac. Well I run a few heavy duty RTAS plugins like superior drummer 2.0 and guitar rig 3. was working fine and like 5 minutes after some tracking and playback it threw the -9031 code... something about increasing buffer size. Well when i go to increase my range is only from 128 to 1024. If i remember correctly my older PC with XP (prior to stupid vista) on pro tools 7 would recognize 2048 but its been a while so i dont know if that memory was correct. Wouldn't my mac have the option for 2048? I was wondering if i only can see 1024 buffer because i only have a mbox.... would mbox 2 or 002 fix the problem? or is it a software issue? thanks for your help..

Re: Mbox only recognizes 1gb ram for buffer
This has nothing to do with the amount of RAM in the computer. It is a buffer setting only. 2048 would be available in a session done at 88.2 or 96K. The lower sample rates would only allow a 1024 buffer(playback buffer, not RAM). I hope this is making sense as I don't understand the buffer enough to really explain it, but the higher the buffer, the more time the processor has to process the audio(this processing time accounts for the latency).

Re: Mbox only recognizes 1gb ram for buffer
My Mbox2 w/USB to G5 PPC has a buffer range of 64 to 2048 @ 44.1K sample rate. Maybe it is the interface.

Re: Mbox only recognizes 1gb ram for buffer
I could be wrong. My 003 does not offer 2048 at the lower sample rates.

Re: Mbox only recognizes 1gb ram for buffer
thanks for the responses. well I understand a little better the differences between actual ram and the buffer thing. Ya, maybe it is an interface thing. If there is anyone out there with an mbox original and can buffer @ 2048 let me know. Hopefully upgrading to an 002 will fix all my problems.
