Ok, my problem with recording freezing in ProTools is fixed. In my case it was that the Samsung SSD I added for recording, in place of the optical drive, did not have Trim enabled. I used a third party tool to enable Trim, and all good now.

Not sure why they named it this, but "Normal" means Disk Cache is OFF.
