Rogue Amoeba Loopback with HDX?
Hi,
I'm wondering if anyone has been using Loopback with HDX setups... I want to see if I can get this going so as to enable virtually attended sessions via Go To Meeting, Zoom etc. So far, Loopback passes audio from iTunes or Tidal to any destination on my mac except for Pro Tools and HDX hardware. I've tried a few different "running processes" options by using "option-add source" Any hints would be appreciated... Pete Pro Tools Ultimate 2020.5 HDX 2 Mac Os 10.13.6 Trashcan 12 core 64 gig ram |

AFAIK, it only works with Core Audio devices.

Re: Rogue Amoeba Loopback with HDX?
Yes! and thank you for chiming in :)
I've been thinking about a scenario that would incorporate source nexus, but the only connections that I've been able to get into Loopback were Pro Tools via Source Connect/Source Nexus, which give me a long delay, like 1/3 of a second... And the connection can be intermittent. Though it gets better as I experiment with buffer settings etc. Here's how I'm setting it up at the moment for a test: Pro Tools to Source Nexus via Source Connect to output channels 1 and 2, to say HDMI 1, and I'll hear the PT source coming out of my big TV (HDMI 1) speakers. In the end I hope to be able to use this system with people who haven't yet opted into the Source Connect system for virtually attended sessions... |

Re: Rogue Amoeba Loopback with HDX?
Here's how I use Loopback with Pro Tools and my HD rig.
I use the optical out of my PT interface into the optical in on my Mac Pro (spdif), and the optical out of my Mac Pro into the optical input of my PT interface (spdif). In loopback, I create (limited to 2 channels) a mono out of Zoom as LEFT and mono out of Source Connect as RIGHT, same goes for inputs. I use buses to send out of the optical port in Pro Tools and sends to get the feed into Zoom/SC. I use the optical in as the returns from Zoom/SC.

Re: Rogue Amoeba Loopback with HDX?
I may be misunderstanding something, but I'm not sure why all that routing is necessary - with Source-Nexus you can build whatever busing, mixers are necessary within Pro Tools and feed Zoom from those. I'm remotely running an HDX rig where Zoom is sourced by stereo auxes in PT and feeds an aux in PT - works just fine.
As others have pointed out, Loopback is strictly for CoreAudio routing. On my personal rig I've got a CoreAudio interface (Metric Halo ULN8) integrated into with the HDX interfaces via AES so I don't need Source Nexus there, but I do use Loopback as Zoom throws up when it sees a multitrack interface at its input and falls back to mono.

Thanks for responding, gents...
Some helpful stuff in there for sure. Looks like it's back to the woodshed for me for now. Pete |

Re: Rogue Amoeba Loopback with HDX?
Not having any latency issues - haven't measured but it's in the 1/4 second ballpark. Sorry that's not much help but at least you know it's not inherent.

Re: Rogue Amoeba Loopback with HDX?
I've never had latency issues with Nexus but definitely have using Loopback. This is why I bit the bullet and bought a Nexus license even though I owned Loopback already and am working with the Native mixer. Loopback also led to intermittent dropouts that sounded clocking related.
