Default Eleven Rack midi question

I have a Mac on High Sierra, PT 12 with a UA Apollo 8 interface. My Eleven Rack runs through the Apollo via sdpf. If I hook my midi keyboard to the Eleven rack can I generate midi from my Alesis to the Apollo to Pro Tools 12 2018?

I just got the Apollo and of course there is no midi connection. I only use midi for virtual instruments and I am trying not to use a USB Midi connection cause I am out of USB slots and don't want a USB Hub.

Thanks
Sam

Is the Eleven Rack connected via USB for editing? If it is, check Setup>Midi>Midi Studio to see if the midi ports are available

Thanks Albee ...yes in midi studio set up the eleven rack is there and connected virtually.

Alesis out to midi in/midi in to midi out on 11 rack. Alesis shows it’s sending a signal and my instrument track shows Alesis channel 1 Omnisphere Channel 1....but no sound. Since the 11rack is connected via usb shouldn’t this be all that I need to do?

I’m confused why I cannot generate a midi signal.

Thanks for any help!

I'm not too sure about pt, but logic can only use one interface at a time, as far as I know.
Have you tried using the eleven rack as the main interface? Even though your connected through USB, in your preferences in PT your main interface for audio is the Apollo, just for fun change it to the 11r, and see if you get signal from the Alesis, just a thought....
