12.3 vanilla vs 8HD
Just wondering if anyone can advise me. Im running pro tools 8 hd, on a powerpc mac, at the studio and 12.3 Vanilla on intel, Yosemite, at home. Do you think my vanilla setup could replace my hd setup? Im considering a system swap as I'm missing some of my plugins for mixing and like many of the current features such as clip trims.
My main concern is problems such as latency during tracking. I don't tend to use plugins during live tracking. However I do full live band tracking at times, up to 24 simultaneous audio tracks and the usual over dubs, dropins etc. Thanks |

Re: 12.3 vanilla vs 8HD
This might help.

12.3 vanilla vs 8HD
Hi josh, thanks for the useful info.
Any other thoughts would be hugely appreciated. Do you think i'll run into problems by switching from hd to native for tracking? Im using a mixing desk as part of the workflow in the studio so I'm assuming that id be okay as long as I'm using low latency monitoring. |

Re: 12.3 vanilla vs 8HD
With one of the latest Macs with lots of memory (to use 100% disk cache) and their hyper fast 1TB Flash drives, combined with a Thunderbolt (1 or 2)
interface it should be possible to get a PT12 Native with super low latency finally. For example the 27" Retina 5K iMac, 4,0GHz i7 Quad with 32GB Ram and 1TB Flash drive http://www.apple.com/shop/buy-mac/im...A&step=config# -a current i7 Quad Core processor for PT12, 32GB Ram to be able to use disk cache at 100% and the fast 1TB Flash drive which you can directly record to now because it´s fast enough for the 1st time in Pro Tools history. Interfaces like the new Apollo series with Thunderbolt 2, the Motu AVB Thunderbolt series or the new Focusrite Clarett 8 PreX Thunderbolt which offers super low latency as well (check out the chart via the link). http://uk.focusrite.com/clarett-in-d...ndtrip-latency You will not need any external Pro Tools drives anymore with the 1TB Apple Flash drive. If you want to use one or more anyway only use SSDs via USB 3 or Thunderbolt. Equipped like this latency should be no problem anymore even with Pro Tools Native.
