Default Running PT sessions on external drive?

G4 800, PT 5

I'm redesigning my storage and backup system. I think the best strategy would involve having a bunch of data IN the computer (OS Boot drives, and 250 gigs of other data on a second internal drive) and then run PT sessions on an external drive. I have an 80 gig drive that I could use. Basically, I just want to grab the session I want from storage (on another drive), drag it to the 80 gig external drive where I'll work with it, and then when I'm done, drag the file back to storage.

This seems like a good plan to me: The external drive enclosure has the good 'ol 911 chip, and I'll be working on PT sessions on a big, empty drive, which should make things go much smoother, I imagine.

I could also use the 80 gig drive for transporting files.

What do you guys think?

I do it opposite because the external drives are slower than external drives. i back up to the external holding tank and drag them to internal partitions for working on them.

Hm. I suppose another solution might be to migrate my OS9/OSX boot drives to small partitions of the 80 gig drive (internal, obviously), and use the 40 gig internal drive for sessions, draging them in to work on them, and then dragging them back to to 250 gig external drive for storage. Then I could back up the 250 gig drive and the 40 gig drive to a 300 gig drive (or pair if I go with RAID).
