Default 1. Finding Dory and 2. Independence Day

Please allow me to interrupt the usual program, but if you have a few hours to waste this weekend, please do watch these movies ... preferably in IMAX 3D.

If you don't like either movie, I'll give you your money back!!!

Like...? Well, I'm pretty sure Finding Dory will be up to Pixar's usual wonderful standards, but ID4:Resurgence was a pretty bad movie, honestly. It made me question whether or not the first one is as good as I remember it being? Perhaps that's the problem with getting older and looking back on the glory days.

It was a perfectly fine way to spend a couple hours out of the heat while working on location in Savannah, Georgia for a month or so, but by the end I was looking at my watch, waiting for it to be over. And the kid they cast as Will Smith's son was not good. No wonder they basically made Hemsworth the star, as he was just much more charismatic (and frankly, accomplished as an actor).

Ehhh, a 2 out of 5 here. The FX were fun, if ridiculous. And I don't remember the mix jumping out at me, which is honestly a sign of praise in this age of bombast. I could hear all the dialog, it wasn't too loud in my venue, and the sfx were nice. The ships were memorable, although slightly reminiscent of recent ships in other movies like Star Wars. I'm a picture editor, so don't take my word as any form of gospel, regarding the mix.

Just watched the Finding Dory in my local theatre.
Comparing to the "Nemo" the story was a weak copy of it with a hard to find innovations. A movie is suffering from a poor written dialog lines with chewed to death scenes leaving no room for any imagination even for kids. My 6 year old boy has watched Nemo for countless times, has been sitting bored quite a time while Watching Dory. In the middle of the film he asked me whether I have something to eat in my bag....And he didn't even when we watched a brilliant "Inside Out" (even though he didn't understand quite allot)
Nothing impressed me in terms of animation, music or overall sound. There was a very accurate mix and tasteful sound design with a great performed foley work. And believe me I know how creative you must be "underwater" not to sound the same everywhere. This is a big challenge indeed. But all this was expected in this kind of films with this budget.
I seems like a film was "ironed" out by the Disney in order to not stress the kids audience in any way. No these (fro Finding Nemo) angry shark guys, no "inside the whale" stomach, no negative feelings...NASTY!!!!

So my PayPal account if you still want to refund is....
just kidding, just kidding

2 of 10.

I'd like to recommend The Shallows. Great movie all around. Beautiful cinematography, excellent use of sound, and amazing performance by Blake Lively. Very simple concept but really well done. Very intense, and a bit graphic in a few places. May turn out to be the surprise hit of the summer.

I was not, in any way, shape or form ... just loved the movie.

Glad to hear your daughter liked it too! :)

I'll see your Shallows and raise you one Neon Demon. That is, if you're into lesbian vampiric necrophelia...
