USB2 Audio HD vs Fw Audio HD vs internal audio HD
Hi
I would like to know if you've noticed differences of performances between a pc that as : 1/ an internal audio HD 2/ an external USB2 Audio HD 3/an external FireWire Audio HD Additional question : Is it better to put the external audio HD in USB2 or to daisy chain the audio HD with the digi002R ? Tks |

Re: USB2 Audio HD vs Fw Audio HD vs internal audio
In my experience, an internal audio drive will always give better performance and reliability.
For external drives, it is recommended (in the Getting Started Guide) that you use a separate FireWire port for your hard drive and your 002r, but if only one is available, they instruct you to chain the drive first, then the 002r. USB drives are not supported or recommended at all, even though some people have had luck with them. My suggestion, from experience, is to steer clear of them and stick to the recommendations.

Re: USB2 Audio HD vs Fw Audio HD vs internal audio
tks.
as my computer is a laptop, i have only one HD so i can't have a dedicated audio HD without using an external HD. My latop also as only one firewire ports... So the question is : is it better to use the same internal HD for system and audio or use an external firewire audio HD in daisy chain with my digi 002R ? |

Re: USB2 Audio HD vs Fw Audio HD vs internal audio
Daisy chained firewire. However, you'd probably see better performance if you purchased one of digi's recommended/approved pcmcia firewire cards.

Digi recommends that you don't record audio to your system drive. So I would have to say go with the fire wire.

Yeah, they changed it shortly after Adaptec changed the chipset in the 4300. The first revision of that page only had one card on it!

Re: USB2 Audio HD vs Fw Audio HD vs internal audio
In my case I had much better performance with a USB2 HD. I bought a dual FW/USB2 so that I could try them out. The FW never worked properly on my Toshiba laptop but the USB2 worked great.
I suggest getting a dual like the Maxtor one-touch. That way you're covered.

Re: USB2 Audio HD vs Fw Audio HD vs internal audio
I have the LaCie D2 triple interface external HD (250GB).
It has USB2.0, FW400 and FW800. WHen I had my MacMini, I used USB2.0 interface and it worked as well as FW400. I never tried FW800 since I heard issues about it. Now, I am building a standard Allenstein (still waiting for some parts), and I will check out USB2.0 and FW 400. Asus K8V SE Deluxe has USB2.0 and 2XFW400. I do not know if those 2 FW400s are seperate channels So I was hoping to use USB2.0
