Default Zoom out but return to centre

This may sound like a slightly random one, but it is causing me a bit of grief when editing vocals...

As you will all know, close editing means zooming in and out a lot. However, I do find it quite annoying that when zooming back out, PT always defaults the start of the loop or wherever the dynamic transport cursor is to the middle of the screen.

I would much prefer it if it defaulted to the left of the screen, in part because I only really use the 'Page' scrolling option and having the screen on the left means I can see pretty much a whole 8 bar section without the need to continually adjust the manual scrolling bars at the bottom of the edit window before re-starting playback.

Does anyone know of a way of changing this?

Any advice or suggestions very much appreciated...

i cannot find the key command for keeping Clip Centered, but you could use the Timeline / Edit Selection Mode so that your edit window does not move along with Scrolling Turned Off ..

this is not what you are directly asking .. still looking for that .. i would like to remember this as well

2 other functions that may help you .. try using the Play Edit Selection and Play TL (timeline) Selection keys ... respectively to the right of the "P" key on your computer keyboard ... you will see the little Edit Brackets (yellow or gold color) above your Edit Selection and then the 2 Blue Timeline Selection Brackets ..

hope this helps ... i have a Pro Tools Overlay from KB covers so i can see the commands ..

cheers john

Zoom Toggle ... in Command Focus in the Edit window highlight a Clip .. now hit the "E" key .. it should make the Clip the entire size of your edit window .. getting closer i think ..

Thanks John. The Zoom/Toggle does help a bit. As you say, not quite the centre thing but it's definitely better. Thank you!

You may consider using Shift + Mouse-Scrollwheel for this,
and also Alt + Mouse-Scrollwheel for zoom in/out. Much quicker.
And Alt + F for fitting a clip horizontally in the edit window. Once you are done when zoomed in, click to select the whole clip, Alt + F.
