PT moves recorded audio early. HELP! PT2018
New apartment system with mackbookpro and focusrite 2i2 2ndgen
felt my timing was odd after recored so I did some tests. playing to a drum audio track I recorded simultaneously: 1) my guitar on one track 2) my guitar + the drum playback via bus1-2 mixed on another track The drums align perfectly between the DR track and the mix track The guitar only track results about 382 samples (8ms)ahead of the mixed track Tried ADC on and off The system is PT2018.12 - Macbook pro 2011 El Capitan 8g Ram and SSD - Focusrite 2i2 interface. Guitar was plugged directly, no plugs. Buffer 64

Re: Recorded track gets moved ahead PT2018
I can see delay comp is off (there would be a little "Dly" in green under the counter). Turn it on.
When you track, the signal chain on that track isn't compensated but when you playback (not in record or input), it should be aligned. Otherwise, reduce your audio hardware's buffer to the lowest possible. Sadly, that's not very good with the Focusrite 2i2. That is the delay that makes this happen (output buffer delay to your speakers before you can hear the backing track and then input delay of taking your mic/line-in signal and converting it to be in Pro Tools. So in essence, you end up with a delay of twice the buffer setting) sorry, just saw you have tried ADC on and off. You'll just have to reduce your audio hardware's buffer.

Re: Recorded track gets moved ahead PT2018
Thanks for the reply Bscout, buffer was low 64.
What I mean is what I hear while I'm tracking is not what I hear when listening to it played back. In fact the timing on the mixed track (guit+drums) sounds right, the 2 tracks by themselves are off. How would you explain that?

Re: Recorded track gets moved ahead PT2018
That sounds like a bad audio driver for the Focusrite that is misreporting it's buffer latency to Pro Tools. Unfortunately, the 2i2 has been plagued with these problems. Do you have another audio interface to try? I note you are on El Capitain (which was/is one of the worst operating systems for audio) -- can you upgrade to Sierra? And then make sure you reinstall the latest 2i2 drivers?

Re: Recorded track gets moved ahead PT2018
Thanks for helping out man.
No I only have my main HD system PT8 in the studio, but nothing to test beside the 2i2. The drivers aren't avail according to focusrite since the interface is class A compliant on Mac I calculated 383 sample delay, at 44.1 it's almost 9ms, audible and I feel it damn. I could move the track by hand Quote:

Re: Recorded track gets moved ahead PT2018
I did a phase test, guitar cancels out if I move it ahead of 382 samples at 44.1

Maybe lose El Crapitan (the worst OSX ever released)?

Yeah, I'm always worried when upgrading OSX. Might try.

Re: Recorded track gets moved ahead PT2018
Make a clone backup (you are already making backups of your working system right?) to an external drive. Then install whatever OSX you decide to go to on a clean system drive - do NOT install right over the existing OSX otherwise known as an in-situ install (even though that's the Apple Way). The install all programs anew; do NOT use Migration Assassin.
