Upgraded to 10.. now audio is distorting!

I got the free upgrade from 9 to 10 a few days ago from Sweetwater because I have the PT9 Student Edition. However, after installing it, something is now VERY WRONG. Whenever I have PT10 up and running... all my audio is distorting really bad, especially kick drums. Whether I have music playing from iTunes, Youtube, Soundcloud, Protools itself, or a beat I've made in NI's Maschine.

The audio is distorting really bad. It sounds like the music is being run through heavy bit crushing and has A LOT of static noise.

However, when I close PT10, everything is fine again. I've installed PT10 upgrade and the Virtual Instruments 10 installer.

I don't know what may be causing this and have searched and does not seem like anyone else is having this problem. Someone please help! I need to finish a few sessions very soon before their deadline!! I'm pulling my hair out over here!

What audio interface are you using?

Have you tried changing settings (i.e. buffer size) in the Playback Engine?

deleting and rebuilding DAE prefs?

basically you go into your user preference folder
find the DAE file(s) and toss them
when you launch Pro Tools next it rebuild the DAE preference file

that didnt help it. it's still distorting. arghhhhhhhh this is pissing me off so bad

Can you test this from a new admin account, so we can determine if it's a system wide or account level issue?

I've been having an issue with audio as well - I have a Saffire interface - and I'm thinking it's with the Pro Tools Aggregate I/O. It would start out fine, but after a while everything suddenly played back distorted. Last time it happened I switched I/O from this directly to Saffire and it cleared up (I had been closing & re-opening the projects before that).

Do you have Pro Tools Aggregate I/O selected as the output, and have you tried switching it directly to the Focusrite output?

I actually have a Focusrite Saffire interface and PT10 is set directly to it, always has been since PT9.
