It depends.

The short answer would be no.

It depends on whether you will be using the computer for anything other than Protools. Protools MUST use the interface to output its audio. You use the 002 to output all of your multimedia and run it through your studio monitors. You will be limited to stereo though.

If you want 5.1 for Multimedia you can install a soundcard and hook a set of 5.1 speakers up to that. But you won't be able to use Protools through the soundcard it will need to output through the 002-So in essence you would need 7 speakers.

I just use my 002. I don't have room for that many speakers

1 - From now on, use the Windows LE forum (see JUMP button below)- this forum is for different hardware.

2 - Using an 002 with the ASIO driver (and a program that supports it, like Vegas) does let you use more than two speakers, as you can output up to 16 or 18 channels with an 002.

3 - If using Protools software, ONLY the Protools hardware will work.

I stand corrected. I wasnt aware that the ASIO driver would output more than the two channels in PT. I will have to read the latest version then.
