Re: Can i keep both PT 7.4.2 and DP 6 on the same MacOSX 10.5.3 ??
In the past having PT and DP on the same system drive has not caused problems. In fact, usually it is possible to have both running at the same time if DP is NOT in DAE mode (open it first and select for audio engine either MOTU/MAS or MIDI only). Use internal audio or a MOTU audio interface for DP.
DP can run in DAE mode utilizing the Digidesign DSP cards and interfaces. It runs TDM and RTAS plugins in DAE mode, but doesn't do a few things that PT does- for instance DP in DAE mode doesn't support rewire. There are a few bugs in DP 6 in DAE mode- Firstly it won't bounce to disk, nor will it record a mix internally to disk (the audio file is blank). To record a mix then it is neccessary to route the mix externally, either to an external recorder/computer, or more likely just back in your interface. Also there are Graphic problems with some plugins where there controls will not show correctly on the screen. In many cases using a VST wrapped version of the plugin instead of the RTAS version will remedy the graphic problem. There have been reports of a few plugins not working i.e. VSS3. In general DAE mode in Digital Performer seems kind of vestigal, and MOTU doesn't support it very well- DP6 implemented a number of overdue DAE features, but it's been many months and AFAIK they haven't fixed a fundamental bug like not being able to record a mix internally. But as said, this should not affect having DP on the same system drive. FWIW there are reports that DP6 doesn't work with some NI plugins in Leopard on a PPC computer, though they seem to work OK in Leopard on Intel Macs. |
