QuickTime synth as midi device
I am using PTLE on a Mac Powerbook G4, OS 10.3.6
In the old days on OS9, I could connect the MIDI output from PTFree to the Quicktime synth via OMS for a quick and dirty playback of my MIDI tracks with all the generic MIDI voices. Can I have the MIDI output of PTLE run the Quicktime synth under OS 10.3? How? I understand that CoreAudio has a synth that some MIDI editors use. Could I route PTLE MIDI to that? Any help would be greatly appreciated! zuff |

Am I correct to think that the most viable solution is to use RTAS capable soft synths or does anyone have a creative solution/dirty hack. I am really interested in any possible configurations even patching out to another machine running OS 9. I have also been considering the use of midipipe patched in before and after PTLE to send midi to another virtual host like RAX, however this also increases CPU overhead. Pete Yandell's OS X Audio page ZUFF, here you might find possible solutions depending on the rest of your setup. Also have you considered sending signal to a java app. or small X11 soundfont synth I have been looking into these options, as yet I haven't had happy results. I understand that some folks use rewire and send midi to Garageband, depending on the needs of your composition and available RAM and CPU this might be possible. ..ideas............ANYONE?? bds

Re: QuickTime synth as midi device
The idea of a low cpu DLS or Soundfont alternative to preview multiple tracks in realtime..
When one needs to render the tracks for a session then a higher quality solution like Sampling/Synthesis hardware or software synths via RTAS maybe SubtleSoft "MidiPipe" which seems to have been updated since last I looked.. I'm sure that there will be satisfied digi kids everywhere.. I'm not so sure if latency will be an issue or if routing from particular virtual sources (Protools) will be possible, I have emailed Nico Wald the developer of the software to ask him if this is possible. I will post his reply as soon as he contacts me. bds

Re: QuickTime synth as midi device
SimpleSynth by Pete Yandell, for that matter MIDI Patchbay, or MidiPipe by Nico Wald at SubtleSoft... I asked Pete Yandell site he replied : Quote:
in this way also.. Huge thanks to Pete Yandell for his rapid advice and softwares, that are a great freeware solution to the quicktime synth output hurdle.. Thanks also Yoko for great help and good humour and happy new year to you and to all.. bds

Re: QuickTime synth as midi device
Where does the audio come out from, when using SimpleSynth? Does it play like a virtual instrument plug in PT?
Thanks! --> freddie |
