Yeah if you have the option. Often you have to mix what you’re given.
Although as arrangements repeat themselves it’s often possible to cobble together a second track from pieces of the first, taken at different places in the song. Then there is the fact that sometimes you want that synthetic doubling sound, especially if you want to get that modern pop or rap sound. In which case simply a delayed second track mixed slightly back might be all you need. Obviously it may require a bit more work than that with eq and compression, maybe saturation, or whatever. |

In my opinion one of the best tools for fake stereo effects is PS22 Xsplit, it is a clever combination of panning by frequencies and cross feed delay that sounds the most natural to me saving me in a lot of sessions.
