Default Help - multiple errors with PT7, PT8, 002 and MBOXPRO2 (XP)

I was running Protools 7 for years with a Digi002 and this same computer and never had any major problems.

When switching to a new system harddrive, I had to reinstall XP (SP3) and Protools 7 and I started getting 9029/9129 errors on my mixes - always in the same places. These same mixes played back flawlessly before. I did all the tweaks to XP I could find - and it's damn fast now that it's so stripped down. I pulled out every extraneous PCI card and all my usb devices and nothing has helped.

I was planning to switch to an MBOX PRO 2 anyway, so I bought one last week and installed Protools 8 (upgraded to 8.03 and then 8.03cs2) in hopes that might make a difference. No change - still the same errors in the same places in my mixes.

I'm at my wits end having wasted several full days on this problem with no progress whatsoever. I'm really just about ready to dump protools at this point.

Here's the sandra...

What specifically are the error numbers, and the body of text with them?
And that 8.0.3 "update" on XP gave MOSt of us enough fits to go back to 8.0.1.

With HW Buffer Size at 1024 I get...
Quote:
Audio processing is conflicting with other CPU tasks. If this occurs often, reducing the H/W Buffer Size may help prevent the problem (-9129)
With HW Buffer Size at 512K, I get...
Quote:
The operating system helf off interrupts for too long. If this occurs often, try increasing the HW Buffer Size (-9029)
In the system usage window, the CPU (RTAS) ranges from 39% to 48%

Just tried another track and got...
Quote:
You are running out of CPU power. Remove some RTAS plug-ins or increase the CPU Usage limit (-9128)
Ran the same section again and got...
Quote:
Audio processing is conflicting with other CPU tasks. If this occurs often, reducing the H/W Buffer Size may help prevent the problem (-9129)
Again the CPU(RTAS) in the system usage window read no higher than 48%.

Found out the problem was with the buggy SansAmp plugin in Protools 8. Fixed it by adding a dither plugin before it. Wish that I knew that plugin was broken before I wasted so many hours of my time. Sigh.

Disconcerting that Digidesign's tech support never responded to this thread. Guess they don't really care... or they no longer exist.

Thanks sw rec for your input.

Digi tech support rarely does chime in here, cause it's a users forum. But glad you got the issue sorted!
