Default Pro Tools LE (7 & 8) "creating DAE objects" freeze

Hi there! I was successfully running PTLE 7.0 on WinXP for about 4 years. And suddenly the other day, it started freezing on "Creating DAE Objects" upon starting up. Same symptoms as everyone else on DUC; cannot end process successfully, trying to shutdown hangs and never completes.
Here are the steps I've gone through, with the problem remaining consistent:

- On every boot-up I always do the "Delete DAE and Pro Tools preference files" and "Delete the Digidesign Databases folders for all hard drives" steps from the "General Troubleshooting Pro Tools LE on Windows" forum on DUC and then clear my trash.
- I have made sure my Pace Drivers are current.
- I have updated to the latest CS release.
- There are no other devices plugged in to my computer other than ilok, mouse, keyboard, and digi002.
- I have tried both my firewire ports.
- I am always logged in as the admin.
- I tried removing and re-installing pro tools.

I then, in an act of desperation, purchased PTLE 8 online and installed it (pretty excited about this, actually). But I STILL have the same issue where it hangs on "Creating DAE Objects."

I am thinking that it isn't a problem with my cpu or firewire card, since it has worked fine for 4 years.
And It isn't a PTLE 8-exclusive problem, since the exact same thing happened to me on PTLE 7 first.

Now, If you have any steps I should do that I have already tried, I'm fine doing them again. I'd rather re-do all of them from step 1.
Thank you so much for all of your time and help! I love Pro Tools and hope to be a long-time user.
Any advice?

-Chris R

You said you tried both firewire ports, I would like to see what happens when you only have one of them enabled. Give that a shot first. Make sure all other adapters are disabled.

More than one active firewire port has proven problematic in the past, especially hanging at "Creating DAE objects".

Is that audio card disabled? How about that codec? Do you use this PC for anything other than PT? Hope not.

If you still experience hangs, try shutting off your 002. You might find that you can end the process successfully.

Hope this helps.

Shutting off my 002 allowed me to quit PT thankfully! Now I dont have to reboot every time! Thanks!

Ok, I'm going to try to disable one of the firewire ports. How do I disable just one port rather than the whole card?

The main audio card is not disabled, but that was never a problem before. I guess I'll try that if the firewire disable doesn't work.

Thanks so much!

Regarding my audio drivers;
In device manager, under "Sound, Video and Game Controllers" it lists the following:
Audio Codecs
Digidesign Digi 002
Legacy Audio Drivers
Legacy Video Capture Devices
Media Control Devices
SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC
Video Codecs

Any suggestions as to which I should try without first? Other than the Digidesign one, are any of these vital to PT?

GAH NEVERMIND!

It was the damn unauthorized moogerfooger plugins! I moved them to "unused" and now it all works! (I hope)

I will try to get some work done, restart the computer, and let you know if it really did fix it.

Thanks again!

Nevermind

I restarted the PC and now it still hangs on "creating DAE objects."

I was so excited D:

So back to disabling a firewire port or an audio driver. Refer to my previous posts please.

Well, you cannot disable just one port on the card, I was figuring your motherboard had an additional firewire port that was perhaps interfering. I dont think that your firewire card is the problem. I am assuming your firewire adapter is a Texas Instruments chipset? Do you have any other network adpaters active? They should be disabled.

I would get rid of that codec, havent heard of codecs making problems before but just in case.

Another thing comes to mind, make sure your 002 is ON Before turning on your PC. This has helped some users before and it is my case as well.

I know your system worked before, but small changes make BIG problems for PT sometimes.

If none of this works, you might also try moving up to XP SP3, and updating PT to 8.0.1, which has resulted very stable for me, but before this, do the above.

Good Luck!

I always turn the digi002 on first. But thanks for the tip.

Ok, so I only made one change, I disabled "SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC" and it worked.

Then I rebooted, tried again and it hung on "Initializing Globals" this time.

Oh, and sorry, I'm running PT 8.0.3
I think I forgot to make that clear.

You know, I think you're right about there being an additional FW port. Yep, there's one on the front of the pc. But I can't seem to pinpoint it in my device manager. Just for the f*** of it I disabled two unused serial ports too.

I'm gonna restart and then I'll see if anything works.

Be right back.

PS: thanks again for the continued help.

>:l
Well now I turn on the PC.
Open protools.
Hangs on "creating dae objects."
Hard-power-off the digi002.
Error message lets me exit protools.
Power-on the digi.
Pro Tools works.
WTF?
