Default F/R posiotioning Vs. F/R divergence

How exactly f/r posiotioning and f/r divergence are diferent in the manner they work? The firs is recomended for exactly positioning of a sound as the other one for general distribution, I know, but how they exactly worl in comparison with one another?

Best regards
