002 Noisy Outputs
Hi everyone.
This is my first time posting, because up until now I've had no major problems. I can say that I've been fortunate as a Protools user long before it was even called Protools - until now. So here goes.... In the middle of a session the outputs of my 002 Rack suddenly starting blurting out a distorted signal. It is a constant white noise that is loudest when you play back any audio. The thing is all aspects of configuring the system work fine, even Protools 10 recognizing the hardware, changing frequencies, bit rate, etc., all seem normal. The software functions normally. It's just that the output sound is distorted. Even tried bouncing to disc, same result. Anyone have any ideas? |

Re: 002 Noisy Outputs
By the way, this is a factory unit, no modifications.

You might want to follow this thread:http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=353541 I think it is an intermittent issue that needs solving.

Re: 002 Noisy Outputs
+1 on cleaning the harness. If that doesn't help, I would retire the old beast and net a sonic improvement in the process
More options: shut it all down and start fresh(you never know...) Trash prefs and data base files(always good to do when anything acts "weird") Change the buffer to its highest setting

Re: 002 Noisy Outputs
Hey Dave, thanks for the insight. It's definitely hardware not software, I plugged in the 002 into another working system and the noise follows. I replaced the 002 with a 003 on the original system and no noise, so there it is.....Not exactly sure what to look for regarding the power harness, nothing looks blown or burnt out, all connections seem rather solid, but I'll look again...
Thanks again.... |

Re: 002 Noisy Outputs
The issue with the power harness is not something you can see. The metals used for the pins and sockets develop a layer of oxidation, which increases resistance. Working each connector by unplugging and reconnecting several times(at least 5-6 times) is usually enough to scrape the and "clean" the contacts. Some use a cleaner like Caig's De-oxit and some eliminate the connector and solder the wires onto the pins.
