Just my thought. It would be great if someone who own the HDN could do the test.
HDN has a similar issue at a 96k 128 buffer size (my normal tracking setup) It's now impossible for me to work with Sierra/Ultimate, having to boot into Yosemite/12.8.1 to currently run a professional session with the correct performance.

It seems to me, that something is very broken, at least that's my experience.

This is what I have whilst scrolling up and down in either edit or mix window

The 2018.7 seems running worse than the 2018.4

Just had a chat with several users yesterday and the consensus is that HDX needs high buffer settings for everyone. With AUDIO tracks, its not an issue, but VI tracks need to be output separately so they are not late when tracking/listening Sorry I don't have more detail but I run HDN here, so can't comment(but at the moment, I'm glad I'm not on HDX)

Albee, at low buffer setting I have more problems with audio files than when using VI.
I'm not able to play a session with the buffer at 64 samples (24/44.1) with only 40 stereo audio files (80 voices) with no plugins and with no additional plugins installed.
By playing the session with the internal mac audio (Build-in line out) all seems to work fine with the CPU around 5%. The weird thing is that by closing the edit window the CPU goes down dramatically (with the HDX). I can confirm that with PTHD11 on Yosemite didn't have this issue. I'm sure about this because after the bad experience with the 2018.4 I reinstalled Yosemite and PT11 on a second partition and all worked properly with the buffer at 64 samples with the CPU around 3/4%. Then nothing is wrong on the HDX but I think it is related with the graphic. DOn't know if it is PT 2018 family per se or HS

It got much better with the last 2 ultimate release with OSX 10.13.2 on my MAcpro 2013.

Also as mention on previous post the video card matters

Guys, the Buffer that you are changing in PT doesn't affect the HDX card. HDX has it's ownindependent FIXED buffer that is not user changable. So bassically all you are changing is the buffer for the native side of the software, IE plugins that are not run on the cards or vi's. Therefore if you have a computer that cannot handle a low buffer setting, no matter if you have the cards or not you will not be able to run with low buffer settings.

Right, but a lot of us do use VIs with HDX, and the issue seems to be that CoreAudio is often more usable than HDX on the same system with low buffer settings.

Running a bunch of Kontakt instances, I need a buffer of 2048 samples (at 96k) to be able to record any MIDI data
