Default Questions on the coaxial snake

I will soon (within days) be the owner/user of a brand new Venue HD64 system. I am planning to build my own snake cables. According to the illustrations in the snake card download and everywhere else I have looked, the Digisnake is shown as a single cable with a "Y" on the ends. My questions are (1) is the Digisnake a 2 conductor coaxial cable? and (2) If I use a single-conductor coaxial cable, does that mean I need (4) cables not (2)? I am anxious for an answer. Just want to make sure. Thanks...

If anyone has any pics of the cable to post, I would love to see the set up.

Hi,

Congratulations, and thank you for supporting our products!

For each snake connection between FOH and Stage two conductors are needed - one for transmit, one for receive. The Digisnake cable is two conductors combined within a single jacket. Many manufacturers provide multi-conductor cables such as this. See this link for more info.

This means that for a fully redundant connection, a total of four conductors is required. This can be configured as a single 4-pair cable, or as two separate 2-pair cables (which is better for redundancy).

Sheldon

20inchtrout:

I have my coaxial snake at the office...I will take a photo of it Tuesday when I am back in...unless someone else posts before.

I had Markertek make mine for me. Belden 1694A with ADC-BNC8N ends. They have different cable color, boot color and labeling options as well. It's not the cheapest way to go I'm sure. But as important as the connection to your stage rack is, I personally wouldn't want to skimp.

Yeah brother. We went with a Whirlwind four pair BNC snake...each BNC having its own color. It is a bit thicker than I thought it would be...but oh well.

I hope that you enjoy VENUE. It is by far my favorite...and has treated me very well. What I love the most is the guys that engineer it are on this form and are more than happy to aid with any instruction or problems that may arise.

Here is the photo I promised of our BNC Venue snake. This is the 5 conductor one we use for MADI/Wordclock...but the concept is the same as the regular 4 conductor used for a redundant system. This is manufactured by Whirlwind.
