Default Digi 002 console falling back to "standby"

Has anyone experienced these problems?
Turn on the computer, turn on the console on your Digi002, load Pro Tools. Once you begin a new session and add tracks, the console says, "verifying", and "loading", and eventually rests itself to standby mode.
Reloading pro tools doesn't work. We were sending information from an ADAT onto Pro Tools, and every once in a while we could at least get sound through the system (although not levels) when switching settings back and fourth in the hardware profiles (not actually changing anything, though). Also, adjusting faders on the console doesn't change the faders on the screen; they just jump back to where they were (most on the time). It's a random reoccurrance.
Now, we turn on the colsole and only see little stars in the dialog boxes. No nuthin.

Is there a reset button, firmware upgrade, or what? Is it just defective?

"Stars" in the dialog boxes is a cause for concern.

Chances are, you MIGHT have a problem with your 002. Scrambled dialog boxes is a symptom that some of the earliest users had when the things were failing - due to a bad DC wiring harness inside the 002, which only happened on some of the earliest units (Digi fixed this at the manufacturing plant fairly early on).

It can also be a fader firmware issue - have you installed the newest fader firmware? If not, I'd try that first. If the problem persists after that (or if you've already done that), I'd call Digidesign tech support - you may need a replacement.

BTW, for the record, the best way to do things with the 002 is to boot the computer with the 002 turned OFF, then once you see the Windows desktop, turn the 002 on and let it go through the "verifying" process and enter standby modde. Once that's there, then launch Pro Tools software.

Knox,

It may be a hardware problem with your 002. If the problem persists contact tech support via phone at 650-731-6100 to setup up an RA.

regards,
mike

Same here...

Only thing that helped me was to use a different 1394 port and power up and try again, believe it or not the Audigy2 platinum livedrive port worked best out the 3 cards, tryed a Via chipset card and a Siig 3 port to no avail.

yea, it appears I have 2 issues. I tried my second siig via this morning before work and same crap. In another thread I had posted what is happening and checked threads back in Oct02 and my unit is acting the same way as those units that had ac connector issues. Digi repsonded to me that my S/N was not in that production batch, but what can I say, it acts in the same manner as the bad 002s produced.

Cool Kevin - I bet that goes a long way towards resolving your issues.

Let me know how it all works out once you get the new unit.
