Default Instrument/MIDI tracks receive all channels - ProjectMix issue???

Hey all -

My instrument/MIDI tracks in Pro Tools are receiving all MIDI channels even though I am only selecting ONE MIDI channel as an input. I must be doing something wrong. I'm creating a MIDI track, selecting channel 3 (for example) as the input and then selecting my software instrument as the output (after creating the instrument track, obviously).

My current setup is the M-Audio ProjectMix I/O and the MPC 1000. I've checked the ProjectMix manual to ensure there is no settings I am missing, but couldn't find anything relating to this issue. I am also selecting the appropriate channel on the MPC. Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Default Re: Instrument/MIDI tracks receive all channels - ProjectMix issue???

Thanks for the feedback. That wasn't the issue. But thanks for posting!

The problem was that I selected "external MIDI machine" (the MPC 1000) in the "MIDI beat clock" box (under the setup->MIDI tab). I should have selected the control surface (projectmix i/o), not external MIDI machine. I was selecting the MPC because I thought I was supposed to select the "master" not the "slave". The option is for assigning a machine to receive MIDI, not assign a master. Simple mistake! But I wouldn't have caught this mistake if it wasn't for my handy "Your Pro Tools Studio" book! The manual for Pro Tools is just awful... When I was using SONAR, MIDI control was never a problem. Everything was so streamlined. Pro Tools really needs to work on this. Everything else in Pro Tools is stellar - but MIDI....not so much! I was starting to feel like a rookie!

Anyhow - thanks again!
