MOTU USB and HUI
Has anybody got a working, reliable combination of BW G3, MOTU USB interface and HUI and can let me know which extensions (versions) make it stable ?

Re: MOTU USB and HUI
It took weeks for me to come to finally hash out my system and the MOTU USB and the HUI simply did not get along. Changed to a serial Crimepiece and Viola! HUI is fine...

Re: MOTU USB and HUI
Which MOTU interface are you using? I've configured a few systems using the Fastlane and it's kind of a chore. If you follow these steps, it should work.
Install OMS 2.3.8, restart Install FreeMidi 1.4.2, restart Launch FreeMidi, configure the the Fastlane and check "Use OMS" Lauch OMS, the Fastlane should now be seen. Configure the HUI as normal. Be sure to uncheck "Use serial DMA..." in the OMS prefs and be sure to check the HUI as an input device in PT5. Seems to be fairly solid but I would definately recommend using a Gport or Stealth Port for serial connection instead. Re: MOTU USB and HUI
I was having problems using Gallery's EMU File Assistant software with my USB (MOTU MTP AV and XT) midi interfaces. Switched to a cheap serial interface for communication with the sampler and it now works very well. USB and midi seems to work in a different way to serial and midi....in what way I don't really know. I am considering going back to serial on my G4 (stealth port) for all midi until USB is a bit more established....I asked MOTU tech and they said there should be no problem mixing USB and serial so I will use serial for the more sensitive devices and USB for the others.....
hope this helps Evo |

Re: MOTU USB and HUI
Richard,
What version of firmware are you using on the HUI. The reason I ask, we are currently using 1.3 (I know get out of the stone-age)...but it works fine with a MOTU AV USB. I have 1.4.5 on the way from MOTU, but if it's going to cause a problem I would like to know. Matt |

Re: MOTU USB and HUI
It's an XT interface and we're running FreeMIDI 1.4.3. I have been told that 1.4.2 is more stable so we'll give that a go.
I'll also check on HUI firmware, but I think the problem lies with the USB/B&W as the HUI was fine and dandy running serial through the XT from a good old beige G3. Thanks Mac! [This message has been edited by Richard of Stagesound (edited February 22, 2000).] |
