PT12 midi track not recording foot controller signals
Hello,
Thanks in advance for any help. Scenario: Live recording midi e-drums (yamaha DTX500) => midi => Eleven Rack => PT12.7.0 => BFD3 virtual kit I have the DTX midi channels split to individual midi tracks in PT for each individual drum signal (to make midi editing easier) The variable Hi-hat also depends on CC data (cc#4 foot controller data in PT). However, the CC data isn't getting captured by the midi track. For whatever reason, using another virtual instrument track with BFD (in omni) does capture the CC data. So I know the cc4 foot controller data is coming into PT. (Hopefully screenshots make clear) Admittedly the documentation for DTX on CC data isn't very good, but even with a lot of trial and error I can't determine what 'stream' the CC data would be coming in on. What would I need to change to a midi track configuration for it to pick up the CC data, as well as the notes coming through on a specific channel? Many thanks. |

Re: PT12 midi track not recording foot controller signals
Hey all,
Apologies to answer own question, but to update, I eventually ran the tedious sweep through all the channels and think I found the issue. Yamaha DTX500 cc4 foot controller data is locked to channel 10. (Admittedly, on a more thorough read of the manual they mention this, if a bit casually/offhand) So, make sure channel 10 is routed to a track and routed to your drum plugin. Better yet I've found is to just make the HiHat channel 10. Notes and foot controller are then packaged in the same track. |

Re: PT12 midi track not recording foot controller signals
Midi channel 10 is the default for percussion and drum midi(has been for as long as I can remember). You may be taking the long way around by using several midi tracks(but if it works for you, then roll with it). While I never used the DTX kit, I did use 3 different Roland kits and all worked flawlessly on a stereo instrument track alone. You might check thru settings in BFD to see if they have a mapping preset for Yamaha as that might solve many issues(both Addictive Drums and the Toontrack offerings have settings for Roland, Alesis and Yamaha).

Re: PT12 midi track not recording foot controller signals
Definitely true. Easiest setup is to leave kit settings alone and use plugin preset. BFD does have DTX presets.
The was a (probably overkill) attempt to split the midi tracks so that I could then isolate individuals drums for cleaning up midi notes. (e.g. be able to isolate and correct snare hits). If that's not a priority, then agreed, best to leave the entire kit going to one instrument track (on channel 10). |
